The fitting of a contact lens involves additional diagnostic tests above and beyond that of a standard eye examination. Most insurance carriers do not cover the contact lens fitting, follow-up, and material costs**, unless there is a medical condition that necessitates contact lens wear. Your contact lens fitting includes the following:
Contact Lens New Fitting - Includes measurements (such as dry eye evaluations, corneal curvature measurements, etc.) and any calculations necessary to determine initial contact lens selection; design and ordering of the initial and subsequent diagnostic contact lenses; education and instruction on insertion and removal, care and hygiene of your contact lenses (training limited to two (2) training sessions that do not to exceed 45 minutes each); and three months of office visits to monitor contact lens acceptance/progress and refinement of contact lens fit to obtain maximum vision potential, comfort, and maintenance of eye health. Estimated fitting package ranges from $105 - $250. If the patient is unable to complete the insertion and removal training, the patient will be eligible for reimbursement of all fees except $20.
Established Wearer Evaluations/Refits - (for established contact lens wears who do not need insertion/removal training) Includes evaluation of current lens fit and function; evaluation of eye health secondary to wearing contacts; calculations for determining needed changes; and design and ordering of subsequent diagnostic contact lenses. Fees vary depending on complexity of lenses and /or patient vision needs. Evaluations resulting in design/material changes may include follow up visits for a three month period.
All continued contact lens care beyond the initial three month fitting is subject to established wearer evaluation terms. We require payment in full for contact lenses before they can be ordered. If direct to patient shipping is selected, entire account balance is due before contact lens order can be placed. Your written contact lens prescription may be released once the fitting is completed and your doctor has finalized your prescription.
